DuBois Integrity Academy (DIA) is a State Public Charter School located in Riverdale, Georgia. DIA’s attendance zone incorporates all Clayton County and serves Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. The school uses a blended learning model to teach STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) and critical thinking skills. As part of its mission, DuBois Integrity Academy prepares college and career ready students to become inquisitive lifelong learners.
With that being said, DIA entered an educational partnership with Tyrell Zimmerman and the “Tyrell Zimmerman Mental Health & Wellness through Literacy Program.” He and his team of former & current NFL, MLB, and NBA players brought an innovative approach to DIA. The partnership was built around DIA’s highly successful eight (8) week “Power-Prep” afterschool program which was created in 2018 to enhance academic achievement and build confidence prior to the Georgia Milestones test, which is taken by all 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade students.
The successful program consisted of a progressive curriculum from Tyrell Zimmerman’s children’s book, Carter: My Dream, My Reality, that provided well rounded experiences in a safe, fun, and loving environment. Additionally, it was specifically structured to integrate current & former professional Players as guest readers to excite, engage, and inspire them.  (Pictured below are Mayor Evelyn Wynn Dixon, members and staff of DIA, Tyrell Zimmerman and NFL and MLB players)
“We are thankful to have partnered with Tyrell Zimmerman and his team of professional players. His staff executed a well put together curriculum to help our students,” said Craig Cason, Executive Director of DuBois Integrity Academy. “Stories are always interesting, and providing real life experiences helped to captivate their attention and learning skills.”
Upon completion of the program, each child received a certificate of completion as well as a hot, delicious, & nutritious dinner provided by Carrabba’s Italian Grill of Douglasville, GA. Honorary guest and supporters included: Mayor Evelyn Wynn Dixon, Riverdale, GA;  Anthony Smith, Pittsburgh Steelers 2x Super Bowl Champion & Green Bay Packers; Sean Weatherspoon, Atlanta Falcons; Johnny Rutledge – Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos; Julius Williams, Jacksonville Jaguars; Dudley Guice, Indianapolis Colts & Tennessee Titans; Walt Harris, Chicago Bears & San Francisco 49ers; Dunta Robinson, Houston Texans & Atlanta Falcons; Brennan Morgan, Los Angeles Angels; Benny Wright, Carrabbas Italian Grill; and Randy Kessler, Super Lawyer & Founder of Starsona.
The children were over the moon with excitement to meet and take pictures with professional players. Cason shared, “We are constantly looking at new and leading-edge ways to engage our children, and we are devoted to giving them a better opportunity. Our teachers and staff proudly go above and beyond the call of duty to improve student outcomes.”
Tyrell Zimmerman book  “Carter: My Dream, My Reality” is the number one urban children’s book. The foreword for this book was given by American actor, Blair Underwood. The book is centered around Urban Violence & Trauma, Childhood PTSD, and Mental Health. The book is also supported by the research of Yale University’s, Dr. Elijah Anderson, who is considered the top ethnographer in America.
