Boost Your Immune System During the Cold Season

As we enter the drier seasons and the temperature begins to cool, it is important to give your immune system some extra attention. Many of us are very conscious of our health as well as the health of our co-workers, friends or family members during this season. Recent concerns with Ebola and unexplained upper-respiratory infections at elementary schools are contributing to a heightened awareness of diseases that can affect our health.

According to the Center for Disease Control, “Seasonal flu activity can begin as early as October and continue to occur as late as May.” A slight cough or loud sneeze on an elevator or at a restaurant could solicit uncomfortable stares or comments. It can cause you to run to your doctor’s office, local clinic or hospital for a flu shot!

On the other hand, did you know that “As of Nov. 2013, the majority of American adults – 64.8 percent, to be exact – had not received a flu immunization,” according to a Washington Post article entitled “Why 64.8 percent of Americans didn’t get a flu shot.” You may be surprised that more than half of American adults may not get vaccinated? But they still need to ensure they are healthy by boosting their immune system.

How do you boost your IMMUNE SYSTEM this season?

Proactively support the immune system to be strong and resilient. When the immune system is equipped with proper tools, it can be your best defense against virus, bacteria and certain illnesses.



1. Make sure you get adequate vitamin D. The best source is a healthy dose of Sunlight regularly and green veggies or take a food-grade vitamin D supplement of about 2000 IU per day.

2. Reduce or cut out sugary foods, drinks and dairy. Studies have shown that refined sugar and dairy can suppress the immune system.

3. Drink immune boosting juices such a Turmeric Tonic, Carrot Apple Pear Juice, Orange Grapefruit Juice, Kale Juice or Tomato Garden Delight.

4. Eat healthy, quality meals regularly; eat fresh green sprouts and grapefruit daily.

5. Adapt a positive attitude towards stressful situations in your life, as much as possible, to keep your cortisol levels low.

6. Take probiotic supplements and or eat quality fermented foods daily.

7. Get adequate rest, about 8 hours of sleep daily.
