Katharine McPhee Explains Why She'd Tell Her Younger Self to Never Go On That Diet

Katharine McPhee is opening up about her journey with body image and what she would tell her younger self.

The 38-year-old singer and actress talked to Yahoo Life about her struggles with body image growing up, including a battle with bulimia.

“When I was a teenager I had pictures of models on my wall and they were all very thin,” she said. “There [were] no other examples of fuller figured women.”

After completing an intensive inpatient program before the semi-finals of American Idol, Katharine began losing weight naturally while focusing on intuitive eating. Her weight became the subject of headlines.

“There is a lot of focus on the way you look and the way that my body was transforming. I believe there was a whole story about like, ‘Wow, she’s lost weight. She used to be a size, whatever. Now she’s a size six,’” she said.

Kat discussed the advice that she’d give her younger self if she could go back to that time.

“What I would have said to myself is ‘Don’t go on that diet.’ Because that’s really what set me up for years and years of some bad behaviors,” she said. “The goal is to have peace and happiness throughout.”

Kat also talked about being at a specific size right now after giving birth to her son Rennie in early 2021.

“I feel so fortunate. Like I had a baby and my body just kind of fell to this weight and I’ve been so grateful because I like really like being in this weight for my personal preference,” she said.

“I came out of the pregnancy accepting, loving my body even more. So it was kind of an amazing journey for me to really struggle mentally, emotionally with my body changing and feeling uncomfortable with those changes and then coming out of it and doing photo shoots like a month after giving birth,” Kat added. “I look back at the pictures in my camera roll and I was proud of my body, and I was fuller than I am now … I would’ve never been able to do that kind of a shoot being in that weight 10 years ago.”

Kat also discussed the backlash her husband David Foster got when he praised her post-baby body.

“We do live in a world now where everything is under a microscope. You can’t even post a sweet caption like, ‘Wow! She looks amazing!’ And if it’s coming from your husband it’s like, ‘Well, why didn’t you say she looked amazing when she was 20, 25 pounds up?” Katharine said. “Not everything has to have so much meaning to it. It’s like, he felt like posting something. So, for me, I just felt like I had to go after the hysteria.”

Kat recently talked about the body image struggles she had while pregnant.

Source Explains Why The CW Cancelled 10 Shows This Season

Just this week, there were seven cancellations at The CW, bringing the network to a whopping 10 cancelled shows for the 2021-22 season.

A source is opening up why the network cancelled so many shows this year after previously cancelling so few shows.

THR explained that in past years, The CW’s parent companies Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios relied on streaming deals and international sales to off-set the losses at the network. Netflix previously paid $1 billion for the streaming rights to the network’s shows for an eight-year period.

When the Netflix deal ended in 2019, Warners and CBS Studios decided to boosted their streaming platforms HBO Max and Paramount+ with the library.

“Foreign sales, too, have dried up; those rights need to stay in-house as both platforms continue their global expansion in a bid to compete with Netflix et al. in the streaming wars. That’s a loss of billions of dollars in revenue, making shows like Dynasty, for example, no longer profitable,” THR explained. “Without those two revenue streams, and amid new corporate ownership, The CW’s corporate parents are in active sale talks with station group Nexstar and other potential buyers.”

Tom Hiddleston Says New Apple TV+ Series 'The Essex Serpent' Is 'Very Faithful' to the Book

Tom Hiddleston is dishing on The Essex Serpent!

“I really hope that fans of the book find things to interest them and to engage them in the series” he told E! News. “I think we were very faithful.”

Tom went on to say that while some actors would find it stressful to star in a series with such a big fan base, he said “it doesn’t feel like pressure.” He added that he finds “existence of the book” to be a “gift.”

Sarah Perry, the writer, has created so much interior life for every character,” he shared. “So it’s something that you can fold into the performance and interpret.”

The Essex Serpent follows newly widowed Cora (Claire Danes) who, having being released from an abusive marriage, relocates from Victorian London to the small village of Aldwinter in Essex, intrigued by a local superstition that a mythical creature known as the Essex Serpent has returned to the area.

Tom explained that while the show will stay true to what happens in the novel, his portrayal “has to be an interpretation.”

“When [Sarah‘s writing] it’s her imagination and, in a way, she is inhabiting every character,” he noted. “And then when it hands over to us, we create a kind of collected and shared imagination.”

Claire agreed that the show was very similar to the book, telling the outlet: “I don’t think it is very different. So much of the book is about the environment that they’re in and nature as the sublime and I think [director Clio Barnard] captured that really brilliantly and beautifully.”

The Essex Serpent is now available to stream on Apple TV+. Check out photos from set here!
