Using email to market your business has become one of the most inexpensive ways to market your business. If done properly your will reach many people with a very low cost. Email can be used to send flyers, coupons, newsletters and articles about your business. You must stay in contact with your current and potential customers. Remember, Out of Sight, Out of Mind.

There are many ways to get this accomplished. This article will give what I consider the easiest ways to get this started.


STEP 1 – Customer Information

Who are your customers? What information do you have about them? Do you have their email addresses? Usually companies only have the information about their customers that they need to provide the product or service. You would be surprised as to how much more information you can get if you just ask for it. You must develop a failure free method of collecting this information.

STEP 2 – What Method to Use?

Flyer, newsletter, or a simple email? Which method will work best with your customers? Try all three! The response from your customers will tell you which method worked best.

STEP 3 – What to Send?

The goal of sending anything is to get your customer to do something. A coupon might get them to come back and purchase something else. A newsletter with a list of special activities or menu items might get them to come back another time for the activity or special menu item. This is a “Call To Action”. Send something that will show a measureable result.

STEP 4 – How to do it?

There are many websites that offer custom email services. Some charge by how much you send, some charge by how much information you store on their site. If you are good with graphics and layout you can use a service that allows you to use your own template. If you are not good with graphics there are many sites that have different types of templates for different types of emails. The sites usually offer a 30 day trial period to let you test how well it works for you. A good site will also offer easy to view reporting that will tell you how well your campaign did. STEP 5 – When to do it?

When is the best time to send an email? For different people there are different times. You will have to test sending at different times and use the campaign reporting features of the site to tell you when most people opened your message. You might have to send batches of messages out at different times.


STEP 6 – What to do with the results?

Developing a successful email campaign will take a while to get going. It can be 30 to 90 days before you will have useful information. But you must keep at it and be consistent with your messages. You’re your clients start responding to your messages you will begin to find our more information about them and they about you. This is called Customer Relationship Management.
